Who is Braden Kelley?
And what should he be doing?
The photograph above is from a speaking gig at the Second Line conference last month in New Orleans and was taken by Robert X. Fogarty – founder of the Dear World Project.
The exercise of choosing something to write on my body for me was easy, because there is one thing that I want to ask others to do, that I want to help others do, and that’s – INNOVATE.
But when people ask me at cocktail parties or in other social situations the infamous question, “So, what do you do?” I always struggle to answer the question concisely because I do so much, some might say too much. So I thought it might be interesting to do a social experiment, starting with a quick synopsis of my main activities and ending with a simple question in survey form to provide me with some real-time customer feedback:
“Where should I focus the majority of my efforts?”
1. Speaking
As a speaker I do my best to be dynamic and engaging and I usually am asked by organizations and events to speak about assorted innovation topics, but conferences and events also ask me to speak about building digital relationships, audience and community. My speaking career has already taken me to a range of countries including the United States, Belgium, Mexico, Canada, and Chile.
2. Consulting
On the consulting side I act as a trusted innovation advisor to help organizations get started on their innovation efforts, act as a source of external perspective to help evolve organizations’ innovation or marketing efforts, or sometimes I even help companies unlock new sources of revenue and/or drive down their costs.
3. Writing
And finally as a writer, I’m the author of the critically acclaimed book Stoking Your Innovation Bonfire, a contributor to the new book A Guide to Open Innovation and Crowdsourcing, a guest on the American Express OPEN Forum and other media properties.
4. Publishing
But I’m perhaps best known as the editor of this blog – the world’s most popular with 2,750+ articles from dozens of the freshest innovation thinkers. A miniature media mogul that’s passionate about innovation and has built something at least useful and hopefully soon – valuable – for people around the world (or at least for visitors from 150+ countries/territories).
So to you, my customers, colleagues and friends, I pose you this one question:
